Assessment for my 'New Elizabethan' Hair Design - In the Role of the Designer

Samara was my Hair Stylist and I was so pleased with the final outcome, it was exactly what I wanted my final Hair design to look like. Samara was very professional with how she carried out my hair design as she was very organized and was very good with her time keeping as we still had time to spare once she'd finished my design.

I definitely think this was the best vision out of the practices as she combined everything that I preferred in the other practices and we also develop my design as we added a french braid on the sides which worked perfectly with the design. She really captured the messy texture which I wanted and the Bouffant was perfectly shaped with enough backcombing.

Overall I've enjoyed this time I've spent with Samara and I think working as a team really helped as I tried to be as honest with her as possible when I didn't like something or I wanted something changed and Samara took it all on board and changed it. I think the only thing I change would be the Pearl pins I would have preferred if they'd been in tighter however the pins I'd purchased didn't have the tightest grip anyway.

Samara's Second Practice of my 'New Elizabethan' Hair Design

So this was Samara's Second Practice of my Hair design I really loved how it turned out however the only thing I'm not so keen on is that at the back not all of it is frizzed as we found from the previous practice that it took long, so what we did this time was crimped the majority of the hair and only frizzed one section at the top, however from the images of the back I love it I just don't like the really long bits at the front when it's pulled to the front. I think I'd prefer to alternate layers of crimp and frizz. I like how the french braid on the side turned out as it really helped to pull the sides back very tightly.

Practicing Final 'New Elizabethan' Design on Dolls Head

Samara's First Practice of my 'New Elizabethan' Hair Design

I absolutely love how the first Practice of my Final design came out, it was exactly what I envisioned. We did come across some problems however as we found that the frizzing technique took quite awhile which would be a problem as we only have one and half hours for the assessment. We also decided that we need to make the plaits on the side much thicker and we also they'd be french braids as we liked the very flattened look on the sides of the head.

Assessment for Samara's 'New Elizabethan' Hair Design - Evaluation In the Role of the Hair Stylist

Overall I was so pleased with how I created Samara's final design as I personally think this was best I had ever done. I definitely think this what the designer wanted her hair design to look like. I really enjoyed creating her final design as well as I made sure to concentrate so that it came out perfect, I made sure I was very professional as I was very organised for example how I kept my station as I wanted it to be easily accessible. I stuck to Samara's step by step guide and her Hair design.

I used hair spray and wax to make sure there would be no fly away's in the images after and I found this worked really well, I also in the end used bobby pins to secure any of the piece's of layers that stuck out of the braid and I was very pleased with how that looked as I found this difficult to do in the practice sessions as Samara had shorted hair in places. I was particularly impressed with how the normal plait looked at the back as I'd struggled in the practice sessions hiding the hair tie holding the plait, But I think I hide it really well in the assessment.

I love how the photo's came out as you can see every single detail of the french braid and the decorative pearls really help to make the braid stand out better. I think the only thing I change next time would be to pull the section of hair that's meant to be sloping down a little more as you can see from the Hair design it's sloping quite a lot. Overall though I enjoyed creating Samara's hair design on her and I think it really helped me improve some of the techniques I struggle with normally.

Step By Step Guide for my ‘New Elizabethan’ Hair Design

  1. Start by sectioning the hair at the crown for the padding to be placed, once sectioned begin to create an anchor French braid.
  2. Pin the anchor plait down and make sure it’s secure once this done, begin to secure the padding into the anchor.
  3. With the remaining hair at the front of the padding begin back comb until hair is standing up straight up.
  4. Leave out two thick sections on the side near the ears and French braid these two sections.
  5. Once the front part is back combed enough smooth this over to create a dramatic bouffant and pin in place, with the two French braids on the sides of the head pin these to hide the pins holding the bouffant in place.
  6. With the remaining hair left start from the bottom and crimp the hair working your way up making sure to use small sections in order for the hair to be very big and messy.
  7. Once you’ve nearly got the top near the top where the bouffant is pinned in place, begin to using the frizzing technique.
  8. Once finished with frizzing begin to brush out the crimped hair and frizzed hair as this will create texture and volume.
  9. To make sure it sticks out on the sides use a pin to fold over the front parts of the hair as this will help to make the hair stick out.
  10. Using pearls to decorate the design begin to place them next to each other all around the front part of the head.

Step by Step Instructions on how to create my Partners 'New Elizabethan' Hair Design

  1. Start by crimping the entire head.
  2. Backcomb the whole top section of the head making sure to leave out a section going around the whole perimeter of the head.
  3. Create a parting in the middle of the crown.
  4. Section down from this point and with a small section near the nape of the neck begin a normal plait.
  5. Once you have plaited a couple of times begin to french braid taking a long section from the top and a small section from near the neck.
  6. Continue to do this process until you reach the other side where the normal plait is.
  7. Once you can't french braid anymore start a normal plait and use a hair tie to hold it.
  8. With the normal plait tuck this into the french braid on the other side, secure with bobby pins and make sure it's well hidden.
  9. If there are any fly away's make sure to use a bobby pin to tuck them under the french braid.
  10. Hair stray in place and use wax to smooth the top of the hair.
